New song “The Honey Bee” for free download

April 22, 2009

Inspired by the honey bees housed on Detroit’s urban farms, Shara wrote a song, “The Honey Bee”, which is available for free download (though you do have to register) on www.biggestlabelever.com

Why all the hubbabaloo?  Well, on April 25th, the non-profit Invisible Children will be staging a global event in an effort to rescue the 3,000 child soldiers in Uganda.  Lots of folks are donating music for the cause, so check it all out.  The more energy we give, even with our thoughts, imagining those dear kids not having to carry around guns, I think the better.  So everybody while you are listening to the song, think lots and lots of big, free thoughts for those kids!

Lyrics:

Here the honey smells like the grain

Bees will wrestle the hay for golden honey

And all I ever really wanted was to be here with you honey

All I ever really wanted was to love you

All I ever really wanted was to love myself

and to be happy to be

Diamonds with Decemberists on Colbert Report Ap. 27

April 21, 2009

It’s common knowledge that the Decemberists’ arch-nemesis, a certain Stephen Colbert, robbed guitarist Chris Funk of his rightful mantle of “Shreddiest in the West” during the much-touted Guitarmageddon of 2006. On April 27th, The Decemberists will be returning to Mr. Colbert’s cable television program to redeem themselves. Or at least to have a pleasant interview with the host and play a song from their new LP, The Hazards of Love.

It remains to be said whether or not Colin Meloy will command his legion twitter followers (125,000 and growing) against Mr Colbert’s relatively weaker armada (a mere 75K or so) in a earth-scorching battle-to-end-all-battles. Pick your side and enlist by following either twitter.com/colinmeloy or twitter.com/stephenathome.

Shara will be singing her role as “The Queen” with the Decemberists on tour:

Highly recommended puppet show!

April 13, 2009

Director/puppeteer Lake Simons and musician John Dyer are at it again!  Having worked on this exquisite puppet theater piece for years, White Elephant is finally showing in New York.  Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease go see this.  It’s so good and so sweet and lovely, I can’t stand it.

It’s showing April 24, 25 and 26th as well as May 1, 2 and 3rd.  (But you might have to skip May 3rd and come see me sing one song at Radio City Music Hall, a concert to benefit AIDS awareness.)
