I have two friends who have put out records recently and I love their music and I hope you will check them out.  DM Stith (whose voice you have heard on all the MBD albums as well as held his beautiful artwork in your hands) has written a beautiful record called Heavy Ghost.  He is out on tour in Europe right now with my dears- cellist Maria Jeffers and violist Marla Hansen.

Also you must listen to St. Vincent’s new record called Actor.  It makes me laugh and shake and sit still and feel inspired.  They also start tour on May 19th!  (Same day as I start The Decemberists tour.)  Hope you are enjoying this lovely May!!!  xxx shara

You’re going to be out with the Decemberists? How did I not know this? Does that mean you will be in Columbus June 1? I need to know so I can get tickets.

Saw David Michael performing in a church in Amsterdam which was wonderful. Not as impressed with St. Vincent tho. And now happily waiting for your return.. :D

“Just Once” off Stith’s Curtain Speech EP is epic. Any info yet whether the Pygmalion Music Festival will be solo, with band, strings, or other?

Oh, dear Germany- land of Anselm Kiefer, Einstuerzende Neubauten and Earl Harvin – I miss you indeed. I do not yet know when I will visit your dark forests, but perhaps in the new year, a new album will be birthed in your Berlin…

Yes I will be with the Decemberists on June 1st singing my brains out as The Queen! The show is so fun, so I hope you can come! Becky from Lavender Diamond and I are sometimes singing duets in the second set too. (I hope everyone has her records, cause she is an angel of light!!) It has been an incredible experience to tour in The Decemberists! I’ve never felt so happy in the communion of a band and it’s joyous. Such amazing people and rich music. It might help your show-enjoyment-factor if you can read up on the lyrics to get some of the Hazards of Love plot lines, discover the characters William, Margaret, The Queen, The Rake.. before coming to the show. Just a suggestion, but not necessary.

As for Pygmalion, yes indeed I shall be alone with my toys. : )

    XO
    Shara

Found your work via the latest Decemberists album. In the process of checking out your material, but I gotta say your voice as The Queen might just be an Instant-Crush-O-Maker :)

Shara, please come back and play New Mexico. Our weekly alt. paper, The Albuquerque Alibi, did an interview with you but I read it the day *AFTER* your show. Based on that interview alone and the photo of you I bought “A Thousand Shark’s Teeth” and it renewed my faith in pop music…really. Surfing around YouTube one time I saw that karaoke clip of you singing “I Will Always Love You” and I thought you nailed it even though that’s not my cup of tea and probably isn’t yours. That’s when I knew you were otherworldly. I believe that MORRISSEY should have asked you to open for him…I don’t want to hate on anyone but where Kristeen Young sounded like nails on a chalk board – you sound angelic. If you can’t make it to Albuquerque than please consider doing a gig in El Paso, TX. I would make the drive to see you.

Shara, what a great show at The Tabernacle in Atlanta on 6/3. I wanted to see Blind Pilot after listening to their NPR SXSW podcast and since the Decemberists were headlining I checked out the HoL SXSW podcast and watched you on Leno. Sad to say I had only heard of the band but now I know them and you and Becky. Please convince them to put out a DVD of this tour (”original cast video recording”)! Hope you enjoyed that venue, with the wraparound balcony where the audience almost surrounds you and the floor area in front of the stage that was perfect for the finale. The pace of the HoL performance reminded me of Fairport’s A Sailor’s Life and Matty Groves, with some Pentangle influences, especially Becky’s beautiful voice bringing back memories of Jacqui McShee in the late ’60’s. And of course your powerhouse performance as The Queen, not just your singing but the electricity of your stage presence. Thanks again, and bring the show back to Atlanta.

I was lucky enough to be at Radio City Music Hall on the 10th of June, which was just yesterday, and I must say your dance moves are singed in my mind.

Though I was fairly far back in orchestra seating, the whole performance was insanely dynamic on every musician on the stage’s personal performance. I’ve already seen you play with Sufjan, and now with The Decemberists. All I have to do now is see you by yourself and I’m looking forward to the day.

Also I enjoyed your playfulness with Becky Stark, you two seemed to have a lot of fun on your platform and even more fun when the songs summoned you off of it.

Girl, I like your style! I saw you perform at the Sasquatch Festival with the Decemberists and I was totally blown away! You and the rest of the gang made camping out in the front of the pit with the sun beating down all day totally worth it! So, thanks! =)

I’m so happy to have been exposed to you via The Hazards of Love. Looking forward to exploring the My Brightest Diamond catalog!

    Blessings!

I got to see you live in the summer of 2007 at the Grog Shop. I did not know you back then but researched your music since. I am astounded by your musical theme you use for each album. I have been playing cello for nearly 20 years and being able to hear the strings on the album makes my heart sing. I hope to see you back in the Cleveland/Akron area soon! Much love to you.

Got something to say?
