We admit, we are a little late at announcing our own news, but to promote the now completed Eleven Fingered Tailor Tour, MBD gave away three demo tracks from Bring Me The Workhorse:

Something of an End live: 2 days after it was written, Shara performed the song solo at Club Dada in Dallas, Texas. January 2004.

Freak Out demo: Recorded in July 2004 at The Museum of Disembodied Folk Art (MODFA) in Brooklyn, just before the first tracks of Bring Me The Workhorse were layed down in Los Angeles.

Freak Out string demo: This one is only available for listening on the VenusZine radio during the month of November. There were two recording sessions of strings before Shara went to LA to start recording Workhorse. We thought those sessions would be the backbone of A Thousand Sharks Teeth, but ah not so. Anyway, they represent more experiments in string arranging, some successful and some less so. Here is one that was less successful, but perhaps, amusing.

In other news-that-has-been-posted-everywhere-else-but-here: My Brightest Diamond will finally be flying to Australia and Japan for a tour this January.

Here's our favorite pics from the Eleven Fingered Tailor Tour with Tim Fite. Is it a horrific murder tale or is it only a case of missing glasses? You decide.

Album news: The debonair clarinetist, producer, arranger, songwriter, haircomposer, Feists SNL banjo-player, Sebastian Krueger, stopped by this week to lay down some hot jams on the new MBD album. Here Sebastian gives a detailed tour of the studio, showing you all the ins and outs of our elaborate space: isolation booth A, the control room, the backup drives and old reel to reel material and the secret location of the files for the new record...

Oh no, Mrs. Tittlemouse's brother has come to live in my pantry!! I guess he heard that we had caught Mrs. Tittlemouse last week, and assumed that our pantry was available for habitation. How does word travel so fast?

On the tour front, yesterday was the big rehearsal for the NY Blender Theater show.
Osso, Nathan Lithgow (bass), Brian Wolfe (drums) and I all piled into the rehearsal space, then played our little hearts and ears out. Here's a quiet one. See?

In album news: More, more, more recordings are being made! The dashing and talented Ben Lanz came over to the MBD studios (um I mean my kitchen!) to lay down some slammin trombone tracks for "Shark's Teeth" this week. You might have seen Ben play with MBD in Paris... During our recording, we had a little distraction from the small mouse who had decided to live in my pantry. (I am happy to report, that today the mouse was caught inside one of Alice the bunny's cardboard tubes and released in the park next door! I am convinced she was really Mrs. Tittlemouse!)

In recording journeys this week, I also traveled all the way to 55th street and 27th Avenue in Manhattan, going to Carroll studios where I marveled as Thomas Kozumplik assembled his marimba. You may be familiar with Thom through the fantabulous chamber music group Clogs. Oooooo! The inside guts of the marimba looked like alligator teeth and the wooden bars clinked like bones! Down the hallway, in another "rehearsal room", there was a group of people who were watching home videos then dancing to techno music. I couldn't tell if it was a family reunion or a leopard print festival. Everyone was speaking russian, so I tried my skills, "pazhalista, techa!" (which means politely, please shut up! I'm working here people!). Still the high heels clicked loudly down the hallway, and cell phone conversations rose in volume right outside our door. Inside, Thom was playing the very quietest marimba music that has ever been played in the history of the world, so this made our recording process particularly challenging. Well, we can say, that techno certainly will be underscoring "Shark's Teeth". Wonderful! A subversive dance album.

I'm exploding with news and more bad videos! For the Pantouf and Alice report, I am happy to share with you that today the bunnies moved in to each others apartments and ate each others food! I'm not sure what this means but I think it's a good sign for future romance. Pantouf got the loin snip only a week ago, so we have been gradually introducing them to one another as his hormones calm down. Truthfully, I will tell you that this pairing, is largely to assuage my guilt for being on tour so much and leaving Alice. (For those of you just joining in, Pantouf was recently found under a friend's car and rescued from the risk of becoming dog food!) Anyway, Pantouf is full of curiosity and mischief, and most certainly keeps Alice's mind occupied, so I shall feel slightly less remorse at leaving her next week for our east coast tour.

NEW RECORD REPORT: MBD is still busy in the studio working on the album, "A Thousand Shark's Teeth". This week special guests popped into the studio for some fantabulous playing- Rachael Elliot of Clogs gorgeously floating on bassoon and Maeve Gilchrist playing a mean harp. Sorry we don't have more video footage to show you, but this will give you a hint! MBD might dabble in the classical world, but let there be no doubt of our love for rock. oh! And we are happy to report that the bunny Pantouf made it through the snip surgery very well. He is recuperating peacefully at home.

Oh my gosh oh my gosh! Finally, at last, we can't believe this really happened!?!? Osso, Nathan Lithgow and I (shara) were finally able to record (or in some cases, re-record) songs for "Shark's Teeth"! Having lived with this music for several years, you can't imagine what a relief and joy it was to finally commit to some recordings. A delightful day. We began at 10 a.m., recorded two songs, ate sushi for lunch, then recorded some more! David Stith dropped in and worked on drawings for the album art! He was working with his spelunking light on.

On Friday the 12th, Pantouf came home to meet lady love, Alice! After the string quintet rehearsal I went to pick up Pantouf (no longer called "bun-bun") from his foster family. I filmed the bunnies first nose sniffing! Grab a cup of tea and sit for three minutes of quiet greeting. Thus far, guitar phobias have not come into play for Pantouf thankfully. He does enjoy a good kale and seizes carrots faster than Bugs Bunny. Next week he gets the ultimate loin snip, so we'll let you know how things go once these two love buns are no longer separated by the cage wire.

An update from Shara:
Hello friends! We have arrived home, safe and sound from our great adventures in the European abroad. Now I am home with the gorgeous face of that bunny, Alice, who often invites me to sit on the floor with her for long spells. Alice told me she has been lonely and is rather tired of all my traveling. While there have been many wonderful and exotic people to care for her in my absence, she wishes they were a little more fuzzy. As fate would have it, I received an email from a friend of mine, Jess, who said that a small domestic bunny had come to live under the car in her driveway. She asked me if I needed another rabbit. I said, yes indeed, for it seems that Alice is pining away, dissolving into a thin waif, and some more company would cheer her. The rescue rabbit, temporarily named "bun-bun", was taken in by a kindly couple in the neighborhood. Two days ago, I went to meet "bun-bun" at his foster home in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn. He is a charmer, dashing in his permanent black and white tuxedo. Smart, witty, affectionate and polite, I believe that his desire for snuggling might produce a splendid match for my dear Alice. There are presently only a few concerns- his raging hormones and the fact that he is scared to death of guitars. One of those issues can be taken care of in a matter of minutes. The other could be a little more problematic. Will the pairing of the bunnies be destiny or disaster? The saga of Alice and "bun-bun" the rescue bunny, will be continued... In the meantime, turn up Radiohead.

Update from Shara:

It's Sunday night. Nate and I flew home from Ireland today. I am quite tired. Rather than clean my dishes now, I have decided it would be more fun to watch a ferris wheel ride on my computer. Here it is, in case you need a dizzy-ing distraction to stay away from your dishes too. This Ferris Wheel was at Electric Picnic where we played yesterday and it was quite a nice ride, seeing the whole festival from that view, though I must say that for 5 euro, we only got two spins round. Energy conservation. Nate and I were discussing his 7 euro falafel incident.

In other news, recently I recorded for three days in Berlin with Earl Harvin, the drum tracks for the new MBD record. The sessions went really well. We recorded in this very special studio, the treehouse of the band Warren Suicide. Then I flew home to record with Clogs here in Brooklyn for a collection of Padma's songs called, The Creatures in Lady Walton's Garden. It was a great delight to work with them and to boot, I could bike to the studio from my house! I don't know when their album will be finished... but hopefully soon.

I decided to slag off a bit since the Clogs sessions didn't start until later in the day, so I finished reading Harry Potter V, then went to the movies to see it. The movie felt like chapter titles compared to the book! I got all choked up when they all took off on their brooms though. I wish I had a Firebolt. Then today I finished Harry Potter VI on the plane ride home and have to pick up VII tonight. Late bloomer to this addiction.

In listening news, I just got the new M.I.A. record which I am very much liking. I saw her perform at Lowlands, and she was fantastic. Crush!!! I also heard bits of the new Prince album...err, um, eek. Tomorrow morning at 6 a.m. or something dreadful, Nate and Brian and I fly to Seattle for Bumbershoot. We dash back home and I launch into writing as many string arrangements as I can cram into the waking hours of 3 days for a recording session with Osso. With that in mind, I should do my dishes now. I hope that you are well and finding your own magic.

Daytrotter hosts a new section on their site called The Bookery where folks read from their favorite poems, novels, books, recipes and tv listings or whatever else they feel like reading to tape. Listen HERE to Shara reading from a collection of thoughts and stories by the amazing photographer Diane Arbus. "You might know Diane's pictures, or you might have heard of her from the recent movie “Fur” — Nicole Kidman played her character. Diane’s photographs are incredible and she often lectured at colleges ‘n such, so some of these paragraphs were taken from cassette tapes of her lectures and were collected as an introduction to one of her photography books. I just find her completely profound and articulate. She understood the human condition and the beauty of people in this really wonderful way. I could hardly read some of that stuff without crying. The last story gets me every time. It is so embracing of life. It speaks of accepting ourselves and being at peace, without ego or fear of rejection, and her telling of the story is so loving. Yeah for Diane and for art to bring us to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the universe!”

THE SPAIN REPORT: an incident of electricity
Shara (that's me), Nate and Brian recently rocked Spain's Summercase festival with such amazing power, if I might say so myself, that we shut down the entire power generator. Oh how fantastic, or rather, how completely embarrassing. So here is what happened during this clip from the Madrid show: During the second song, Robin's Jar, a cymbal fell off the drum riser and at the same instant all the power shut down. Confused, I moved in a panic to see if my guitar cords were at fault, then I resorted to the only remaining solution- jumping up and down as fast as possible. Brian took a drum solo to briefly turn the chaos into a dance party. After running out of moves, the band took refuge backstage. The tech team scrambled around trying to figure out what had happened, and realized that when the cymbal had fallen off, it had actually sliced into a main artery cord and thus tripped the whole system. Within 10 minutes we were back on stage for more jumping. Whew! Despite the power incident, playing the festival was an incredible experience. A marked weekend for all three of us. Part of what made the whole experience so memorable was hearing the other bands- The Gossip (holy cow, like listening to Tina Turner!), Air, Dragonette, DJ Shadow and Jesus and Mary Chain were some of the highlights. In Barcelona, we stayed up til dawn on the wings of the Chemical Brothers. Hooray!!! Thank you lovely Spain!

I started with 8 old songs and I thought it would be so clear and direct to finish it, but it feels like trying to catch a shapeshifter late at night in the woods. Having toured with Sufjan Stevens and most recently Jedi Mind Tricks, My Brightest Diamond breaks out on a headlining tour with LA band Pedestrian including guitarist Joel Shearer (who engineered "Bring Me The Workhorse") and keyboardist/guitarist Zac Rae (who played a couple pump organs for BMTWH!), drummer Blair Sinta and bassist Joe Karnes. Now hold on to your seats, because this will be the rockin-est My Brightest Diamond configuration you have yet seen! But we think the rock interpretation will be fun. Pedestrian is an amazing band, and in addition to playing with Shara in MBD, they also will play their own set, so please come early and make an evening of it. For dates see the concert page!
If you happen to be at CMJ in New York this week, you can find MBD at The Rebel on Friday,
with string quartet and band at 9pm!

Road Recovery is comprised of entertainment industry professionals whose lives have been touched by addiction and other adversities and now wish to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Shara has known members of the executive board of Road Recovery for many years and believes in their work, so she felt great about supporting them!
